For a holiday/vacation and homecoming, what you do before you leave home can be as important as what you do when you are away. Be it going to work or on a vacation, you must always follow a few rules before leaving house.
While you may already have knowledge of a few tips, there still may be one or two that you are not aware of.
1. A Final Check In The Mirror
Even though most of you literally get ready in front of the mirror, it’s important to check yourself one final time before heading out.
The trick is that once you’re done getting dressed up, occupy yourself for a few minutes in other activities like packing your food, feeding your dog, grabbing the car keys or any other house chores. This way you get distracted and your mind loses the image it saw of you in the mirror earlier. When you check yourself again, it will be with fresh eyes and mind. It’s extremely possible that you will find some scope for improvement.
2. Check All Electric Appliances
Since you will not be using any electric appliances once you’re out, it’s advisable to turn them off. And it doesn’t just mean putting your electric appliances in sleep mode, it not only drains electricity but can be very risky at times.
From your led wall lights to TV switches everything should be turned off. Don’t just put them on sleep mode, but actually unplug the gadgets or flip the power switch off. At least this way you will not be consuming any power unnecessarily, unknowingly. In addition to saving power, you will save on your electricity bill too! Also, check that your kitchen gas is off otherwise there can be serious consequences.
3. Don’t Share Information
Abstain from sharing details about your time of departure and arrival with anyone except your most trustworthy ones. Nobody should be aware of your precise schedule as this information can reach the wrong ears and can be an invitation to theft or worse.
You can let your trusted neighbor know in case you’re going away on a vacation, so that they can keep an eye on your house, water the plants and contact you if there is an emergency.
You should also not share any sensitive information like passwords, security codes as they can fuel a break in. Keep these essentials private to avoid any unwanted incident.
4. Check Your Security Alarm and Install
Always, always activate your security alarm before stepping out. This is an excellent precaution that you can take to prevent any sort of an unwanted incidence. If something were to happen, a security system would notify you, the neighbors and the police immediately.
Not to mention that you must memorize the deactivation code too!
If you don’t have a security alarm, it is highly recommended that you get one installed immediately. You will reduce the possibility of a break in, to a great deal.
5. Use A Safe
Never leave your valuables lying around the house. Keep them in a safe just in case thieves find a way in. Be it jewelry, gadgets, money or important documents, you should take extra care of their safety.
6. Hold your E-mails:
In addition to the above valuable tips , do not forget to turn on your email auto-response. Do this even if you’re not planning to respond. Turning your email auto-response enables you to not miss on things you plan to answer once back.
7. Always take precautions for fire:
Leaving house without unplugging your electronics that include ac, refrigerator, geysers would cause a major damage and a loss. It can not only take more energy consumption but can result into setting up your house into fire. Unplugging them can lower the risk of the electrical fire.
8. Check all the windows and doors:
Right before you leave, it’s advisable and wise at the same time to check all the possible entry points of your home. Just make sure you haven’t left any seldom-used doors or windows unlocked or cracked open. We usually forget about that side door that rarely gets used, which is also the first place a would-be thief would likely check.
Follow these rules for preventing any accident or incidence. The above- mentioned suggestions are essential to be considered every time you have to step out of your home. The safety of your house and your own self should never be compromised. A little caution can matter a great deal so just ensure that you never forget any of these.
