What is engineering?
Engineering is the application of science and technology to build or design something that helps the people performing the day to day activities in a better way , it can be machinery, building or simply kitchen utensils everything involves the use of science and technology .
What is an MBA?
It is a degree in business and management ,it usually helps in building a managerial career in public government or private sector but what an MBA teaches you can be used anywhere in your life .
These are two completely different areas of career, we often find so many engineering students pursuing an MBA degree. It has become a trend among engineers in the last decade, in fact, most of the toppers of management entrance exams like CAT are engineers from IIT or DTU. Why this change in career?
Halfway through engineering, students realize it takes a lot more efforts than it is actually worth, they lose interest in their subjects or get tired of studying so much. “It is a mad chase. First, do engineering and then decide what you wish to do next in your life.” They have started realizing that MBA graduates are paid more than what their engineering careers will. It is a piece of cake for them to crack any MBA entrance exam because it mainly constitutes of Quantitative Aptitude & Logical Reasoning sections and engineering students are the kings of it.
Those who have completed their engineering and have got a fair job, then they wish to reach to senior require, their skill of technology only will not get them there, they need broader business knowledge and skills to become strategic leaders of their organizations. An MBA degree gives the engineers a more wide knowledge about how to make strategic business decisions and understanding those decisions
Leaders must be able to make strategic decisions, negotiate and persuade others and lead a high-performance team. Other critical skills include oral and written communications, the ability to work in teams, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Engineers may have built a good product but they also have to convert it into a profitable business venture and this benefit they will get from studying management and entrepreneurship.
It is very important for engineers to expand the horizon of their knowledge and skills not only in the IT sector but also in the management area ,it will be better for them if they want to be the head of any IT company or a senior management and not just an ordinary engineer ,A management degree would help you in many ways they make you dream bigger and think bigger ,helps you innovate better things .It teaches you how to be more productive but with a lesser cost .
All in all, It is a good option to do an MBA during your engineering or after getting an engineering degree, education never goes to waste, if anything it only adds up to your CV and provides you even better career opportunities. In India, there is a shortage of employment for engineers, an MBA program definitely increases your worth, builds up your personality and help you get a good job in the IT sector.
